Clarion Hotel IFSC csoops top awards in Fáilte Ireland Optimus Programme

The Clarion Hotel IFSC has been awarded the ‘Award of Excellence’ at the Fáilte Ireland Optimus Awards held in Clontarf Castle Hotel, Dublin. Optimus is a programme developed by Fáilte Ireland to support tourism businesses in becoming more profitable, more efficient and more competitive.

The ‘Award of Excellence’ is awarded to businesses who display an outstanding performance within the hospitality sector. Having previously been awarded the ‘Mark of Best Practice’ on two occasions, the Clarion demonstrated the continuous improvement required to progress through the various stages of the Optimus model.

Speaking at the awards, Aidan Pender, Director of Industry and Policy Development at Fáilte Ireland congratulated the latest recipients and said “Optimus was designed to help businesses strive for business excellence and to reap the rewards by improving competitiveness and profitability. All three levels of the award are represented here today which clearly reinforces the concept of continuous improvement. Optimus is both business and customer led in terms of enhancing competitiveness and quality with businesses, and also striving to ensure the customer experiences excellence through all elements of operations”

The Optimus programme structure comprises three distinct yet inter-related levels, enabling businesses to progress through the different levels. The first level, the Service Excellence programme, leading to the Ireland’s Best Award, focuses on the creation and development of a service excellence culture that is specific to the hospitality industry. The second level, the Mark of Best Practice, enables tourism businesses to benchmark against the best in the industry, discover what makes them successful and apply that to their own business. The top level, ‘Award of Excellence’ is awarded to businesses that demonstrate a deep commitment to continual improvement and superior performance.

Offering a practical approach to achieving excellence, Optimus focuses on every aspect of the business from customer service to operational management to organisational excellence. Recognition under the Optimus Programme is awarded based on assessment and evaluation of the management practices and approaches. An independent study carried out to assess the impact of Optimus on business performance found that staff turnover was down by almost one third and overall customer satisfaction improved by 8%. Businesses accredited with the Fáilte Ireland award have shown a 27% higher gross operating profit than the Irish Hotel Benchmark.
